National Holidays in Bangladesh



National Holidays of Bangladesh:
  • Pohela Boishakh - The most widely celebrated secular national festival of the country.

    Here people from all walks of life participate in various cultural shows called Boishakhi Mela, wearing national dress (kurta or Shari), eating sweets and wishing every one Shuvo Naba Barsha. Elish-Panta is a most and wide expression in this day. In a soil maid plate or boul Elish-Panta has been decorated with heart breaking beauty. Battala at Dhaka University made an another reception for all categories people. The pleasing of this day is unspeakable. All Dhaka city decorated specially Ramna Battala is devoted for cultural programme.
     




  • National Mother Language Day - February 21st . This day marks the anniversary
    National Mother Language Day
    of the martyrs who died in 1952 while protesting against the imposition of Urdu in the name of Islam as the mother-tongue. The uprisings to support Bangla as the mother language fueled the movement towards secular nationalism that culminated in independence in 1971. The holiday is marked by (one of the most colorful activities  in Asia) tributes to the martyrs by political leaders, intellectuals, poets, writers, artisans and all general people and singing beginning at one minute after midnight on the 21st Feb. Government offices are closed, and expect traffic disruption on 21st February. This day is a most valuable and remarkable day in our heart. We nourish this day through whole of our life.




  • Independence day
    Independence day
    26th March - On this day 'Father of the Nation' Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proclaimed Bangladesh's independence. We did war 9-manth against Pakistani Hanader Bahini and won. They surrendered after our movement after nine months. Kids to Old, boy, girl, man, woman, soldier, police every of us fight against them. Before surrender they killed uncountable people, raped many girl and woman, killed intellectual persons, government employees, and many columnist. Now we are independent after devoted many of them.





  • Victory day - 16 December - On this day Pakistani occupied forces surrendered
    Victory day
    to joint Bangladeshi & Indian forces. During the war 25th March to 16th December we loss many of our father, mother, sister, brother, relative, friends and well known and unknown brothers and sisters. After unspeakable loss we gained this Victory Day. Today we are living in peace and can claim our freedom, enjoy our moment, spending our life, dividing our sorrow and feeling proud for our brave history.
      


  • Eid-ul-Fitr - The largest Muslim holiday of the year, it celebrates
    Eid-ul-Fitr
    the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Food is highlighted, and you'll be invited to relative and known persons, friend’s home for the feast. Businesses are closed for at least a couple of days even for a week. School, college and university are closed for 10-15 days. Government, non-government and semi-government offices are also be closed for 5-6 days. Many of us leave Dhaka City and to their village and enjoy whole weekend.




  • Eid-ul-Azha - is the second largest Muslim festival. It celebrates after 70 days of

    Eid-ul-Fitr. Food is highlighted also in this day, and we'll be invited to relative and known persons, friend’s home for the feast. The main and principle duty in this day is to give Kurbani. Cow, goat, dumba, camel are used for Kurbani and it distributed by the law of Islam. Businesses are closed for at least a couple of days even for a week. School, college and university are closed for 10-15 days. Government, non-government and semi-government offices are also be closed for 5-6 days. Many of us leave Dhaka City and to their village and enjoy whole weekend.

  •  National Mourning Day:
    National Mourning Day
    It is a tragic day of our country. In that day, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed with his whole family very crudely. A military assembly happened this tragedy. This is a very mournful day for our country. In this day Government remains close our office, school and college as a memorandum day. We all pray for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family in this day. Quran Mahfil and Doa happens in every mosjid in this day.




  •  Durga Puja - Four days around October. The largest Hindu festival in the country,
    Durga Puja
    it goes on for several days with festivities varying each day. Durga Puja also referred to as Durgotsava or Sharadotsav is an annual Hindu festival in South Asia that celebrates worship of the Hindu goddess Durga. It refers to all the six days observed as Mahalaya, Shashthi, Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Nabami and Vijayadashami. The dates of Durga Puja celebrations are set according to the traditional Hindu calendar and the fortnight corresponding to the festival is called Devi Paksha, "Fortnight of the Goddess"). Devi Paksha is preceded by Mahalaya, the last day of the previous fortnight Pitri Paksha, "Fortnight of the Forefathers"), and is ended on Kojagori Lokkhi Puja ("Worship of Goddess Lakshmi on Kojagori Full Moon Night").
               Durga Puja festival marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the evil buffalo demon 
          Mahishasura. Thus, Durga Puja festival epitomises the victory of Good over Evil. 

  • Muharram(Ashura) –
    Muharram(Ashura)
    This is a most sorrowful history in Muslim era. Imam Hossain and Imam Hassan(R:) was killed by the another Muslim emperor in that day. They are great grandson of Hazrat Muhammad (S:) only Prophet of Muslim. Sia people perform an activities in that day. Thay beat themselves and blooded them horribly. it is their tradition but wrong activities.




  •  Christmas - December 25th, This is the largest Festival of Christian Community in the country which is declared as a government holiday. A prayer is held at Tejgaon Church at 23:00 (Local Time)

    on 24 December. Also some other churches in Dhaka also arrange prayers
    Christmas or Christmas Day is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed most commonly on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world. A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it is prepared for by the season of Advent or Nativity Fast  and is prolonged by the Octave of Christmas and further by the season of Christmastide. Christmas Day is a public holiday in many of the world's nations,  is celebrated culturally by a large number of non-Christian people, and is an integral part of the Christmas and holiday season. 

        Conclusion: In our country we live with full of joy. We enjoy freedom. We work together. We make    something for this country to develop and better life for next generation.
